Backup

The backup preset creates a point-in-time replica of the production data. After the copy completes, the backup view can be refreshed from the production data, with minimal copying of data from the production volume to the backup volume.

You can use the backup preset in tape backup environments where an independent point-in-time view of the production data is required. In this situation, you create a backup. After it completes, the backup is independent of the production volume and can be used as the source data for copying to tape. Because the backup is independent of the production volume, the copying process does not impact I/O to the production volume.
