Enable access to stale copy

Use this page to allow hosts to access a stale version of the data that is on a different site. The stale data means that the copy is not up-to-date and is not accessible, but contains consistent data from an earlier time.

Use this action only when the up-to-date copy is expected to remain offline for an extended period, or when the storage for the up-to-date copy might have suffered data loss, such as a flood or fire at the site. Enabling access to a stale copy at a different site can help minimize the effect on your business by providing host access to an earlier version of the data.

If you enable access to a stale copy, then the copy that was up-to-date is made inaccessible, even if the copy comes back online later. The copy is preserved and can be made accessible again, if you decide to failback later.

If you do not enable access to a stale copy, the volume is automatically made accessible when the up-to-date copy comes online. Out-of-date copies are automatically resynchronized from the up-to-date copy.

Before you enable access to the stale version of the data, ensure that hosts are prepared to access out-of-date data. Actions on the affected hosts depend on the type of applications and requirements that these hosts have for accessing stale data. Consult your host documentation for information.
