Update drives

You can update drives by downloading and applying firmware updates.

Using the management GUI, you can update drives that are on the system. Drives that are attached to the system that are on external system storage systems cannot be updated by using this panel. The management GUI can update individual drives or update all drives that have available updates. A drive is not updated if it meets the following conditions:
  • The drive is offline.
  • The drive is failed.
  • The RAID array to which the drive belongs is not redundant.
  • The drive firmware is the same as the update firmware.
  • The drive has dependent volumes that will go offline during the update.
  • The drive is used as a boot drive for the system.
To update drives, complete the following steps:
  1. Ensure that the file that contains the firmware update is downloaded to your system. Contact support to obtain the update for the firmware.
  2. To update the drives, select Pools > Internal Storage in the management GUI.
  3. To update all drives, select Actions > Update All.
  4. To update specific drives, select the drive or drives and select Actions > Update.
  5. Click Browse and select the directory where you downloaded the firmware up file.
  6. Click Update. Depending on the number of drives and the size of the system, drive update can take up to 10 hours to complete.
  7. To monitor the progress of the update, click the Running Tasks icon that is located in the bottom center of the management GUI and then click Drive Update Operations. You can also use the Monitoring > Events panel to view any completion or error messages that are related to the update.
